Aedeon vs Copilot agents · Updated October 13, 2026

Aedeon vs Copilot agents: Copilot speeds up the people. Aedeon changes the systems.

Copilot agents help people with documents, code and pull requests, inside the repository or app they are pointed at. Aedeon is the system of record for how your software actually works, and the engine that evolves it.

Keep Copilot for the work your developers do every day. Bring in Aedeon when a change crosses repositories, databases, pipelines and business rules, and has to match the old system on production traffic before it ships.

Definition

What are Copilot agents?

Two families of Microsoft agents share one name.

In Microsoft 365

“Copilot agents” covers two families of Microsoft products. In Microsoft 365, agents such as Researcher and Analyst, plus custom agents built in Copilot Studio, work on documents, email, meetings and business processes. Microsoft governs them through Agent 365, generally available since May 2026.

In GitHub Copilot

In GitHub Copilot, agents work on code. Agent mode edits files in the developer’s editor. Copilot cloud agent, called Copilot coding agent until April 2026, takes a task and works in the background, while Copilot code review comments on pull requests. The GitHub Copilot modernization agent upgrades Java, .NET and C++ applications and moves supported applications to Azure.

The short answer

Keep Copilot for daily work. Use Aedeon when a change crosses systems.

Aedeon vs Copilot agentsChecked October 13, 2026

Copilot agents

Copilot agents make people faster inside the boundary they are given, whether that is a document, an editor, a repository or an application headed to Azure. They are licensed per person and built into tools your teams already use.

Aedeon

Aedeon is built for the change that crosses those boundaries. Every application, database, pipeline and business rule sits in one map, Aedeon Graph. From one sentence, Aedeon Supervisor plans the change, and Aedeon Evolve checks the new system against the old one on production traffic before it ships.

Most enterprises

Most enterprises will keep their Copilot seats and add Aedeon for system change. The two meet in your Git, where Aedeon’s commits arrive with their full history and go through the same review as everything else.

Which tool for which job

Pick a request. See which agent fits.

Eight requests a VP of Engineering might hear in one week, and the tool built for each.

Best fit

Aedeon

WhyThe schema, stored procedures, ORM bindings, a nightly reconciliation job, two compliance checks and a BI feed all move together. Aedeon finds each one in the graph, plans the change, gates every step and checks it on production traffic before cutover.

Worth knowingA repository-scoped agent sees the billing code. The job, the policies and the BI feed live elsewhere.

What GitHub and Microsoft publish about scope

These limits come from GitHub Docs and Microsoft Learn, checked October 13, 2026. Every one of them is reasonable for the job the agent was designed to do. Taken together, they explain why a cross-system change needs something else.

Published limit

One repository per task

GitHub’s documentation says Copilot cloud agent can change only the repository specified when a task starts, and cannot change several repositories in one run.

What Aedeon does

Aedeon plans one change across every repository it touches.

Published limit

Context from that repository

The cloud agent draws context from the repository it is working in. Broader context requires configuring MCP servers.

What Aedeon does

Aedeon Graph already holds every connected repository, database and pipeline in one map.

Published limit

59-minute sessions

Each cloud agent session has a maximum execution time of 59 minutes, and GitHub states the limit cannot be extended.

What Aedeon does

Aedeon runs a change gate by gate for as long as the plan needs. The New York Times change ran twelve weeks.

Published limit

GitHub-hosted repositories

The cloud agent works only with repositories hosted on GitHub.

What Aedeon does

Aedeon commits land in your own Git and work with CI/CD such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions or Bamboo.

Published limit

Review before production

GitHub advises reviewing and testing the agent’s output before using it in production.

What Aedeon does

Aedeon checks the change against the old system on production traffic before it ships.

Published limit

Azure as the destination

Microsoft describes its Copilot upgrade agent as upgrading Java, .NET and C++ applications and moving supported applications to Azure, validating builds, unit tests and CVE scans.

What Aedeon does

Aedeon works toward any destination, on any cloud or database. Your choice of target stays yours.

What Aedeon adds

Four things Aedeon adds to a Copilot rollout

A map of the systems, kept current.

Aedeon Graph resolves 15 kinds of entity and 16 kinds of relationship across code, databases, stored procedures and pipelines, stamped with the version each fact came from. It maps 94 to 98 percent of business logic automatically and flags the rest as gaps.

A plan with a price.

State the outcome in one sentence. Aedeon Supervisor, a proprietary planning model, writes the steps and the estimated cost. Your architects edit and approve the plan before anything runs.

Proof from production traffic.

Aedeon Evolve runs the changed system against the old one on real traffic, with data, application and behavior checks. A divergence stops the gate. The New York Times change replayed 2,412,880 requests with zero divergences.

Controls a regulated team can sign off on.

Aedeon runs in a private VPC in your cloud, in a sovereign region, or fully air-gapped on Virtual Private Aedeon. Models are limited to the ones your organization approves from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini and xAI Grok. On Max, full audit logs include SOX, PCI and HIPAA impact diffs.

  3. AedeonAedeon plans it against the graph.

Every dependent system found first, with the plan and its cost approved by a person.

  4. Your GitAedeon Evolve’s commits land in your Git.

With source, analysis, model, approvals and verification runs attached.

  5. CopilotYour normal review runs.

Including Copilot code review if your repositories live on GitHub.

  6. AedeonThe graph updates.

The next change starts from what Aedeon already knows.

Decide

Which one fits the job

Use Copilot agents when

  • You want every developer to have an assistant in the editor and on pull requests.
  • A task fits inside one repository and one session.
  • You are upgrading Java or .NET applications and moving them to Azure.
  • You already license Microsoft 365 and want agents for documents and processes.

Use Aedeon when

  • A change touches several repositories, databases and pipelines at once.
  • Your destination could be any cloud or database.
  • Someone must sign off the cutover with evidence from production traffic.
  • You want a map of your systems that outlives the project.

The two sit on different budget lines. Copilot is licensed per person for daily work, and Aedeon is the platform your organization uses when a system has to change.

Answers

Questions buyers ask about Copilot agents and Aedeon

About Copilot agents

What are Copilot agents?
Copilot agents are Microsoft’s AI agents. In Microsoft 365 they include Researcher, Analyst and custom agents built in Copilot Studio, which work on documents, email, meetings and business processes. GitHub Copilot’s agents work on code: agent mode, Copilot cloud agent, Copilot code review and the GitHub Copilot modernization agent.
Are Copilot agents free?
Some are. On GitHub, agent mode is included in the Free plan. Copilot cloud agent and code review need a paid plan, such as Business at $19 or Enterprise at $39 per user a month. Microsoft 365 agents depend on Microsoft 365 Copilot licensing and Copilot Studio credits.
Can GitHub Copilot modernize legacy applications?
Yes, within a defined scope. The GitHub Copilot modernization agent assesses, plans and executes upgrades for Java, .NET and C++ applications and moves supported applications to Azure, validating builds and scanning for CVEs. Aedeon is built for changes that also reach the databases, stored procedures, pipelines and business rules around an application, toward any destination, verified on production traffic.
Can Copilot cloud agent work across repositories?
Not in a single run. GitHub’s documentation says the cloud agent changes only the repository specified for a task and draws context from that repository unless you configure MCP servers. Sessions run for up to 59 minutes. Aedeon plans one change across every repository, database and pipeline it touches.
Is GitHub Copilot Enterprise enough for a legacy migration?
Copilot Enterprise gives every developer capable agents for code inside their repositories, at $39 per user a month. A move like that also needs the dependencies outside each repository found first, a plan a person can approve, and evidence that the new system behaves like the old one. Aedeon does that part of the work.

About Aedeon

Does Aedeon replace Copilot?
No. Copilot helps people do their daily work, and Aedeon changes systems. Most enterprises will keep Copilot seats for developers and use Aedeon for changes that cross systems.
Does Aedeon work with GitHub?
Yes. Aedeon’s commits land in your Git with their full provenance attached, and Aedeon works with CI/CD such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins and Bamboo.
Which AI models does Aedeon use?
Aedeon orchestrates frontier models from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini and xAI Grok, limited to the ones your organization approves. Its planning model, Aedeon Supervisor, is Aedeon’s own and is never trained on customer code.
Does Aedeon train on our code?
No, on any plan, including the free trial. There are no pooled indexes and no cross-tenant embeddings, and your graph, source and analysis stay inside your own tenant.
